Let’s See What Happens…

2013

Pavilion 2
An international exhibition at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, featuring work from seven artists; four from Wales and three from China, across five venues in Swansea City Centre.

Inspired by the Xiamen Tea Emporium and the city’s busy markets, Owen developed a temporary tea pavilion in Swansea Market, as part of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery’s exhibition, Let’s see what happens…, in 2013. He worked in collaboration with residents of Swan Gardens, a retirement home for elderly members of Swansea’s Chinese community. They drank tea together, made pickles and produced a selection of tea cups.

The work of each artist participating in Let’s see what happens… is connected by their shared experience of spending time together in Swansea, Xiamen and Shanghai. The exhibition is a result of the discussions they had about their work, their lives, the places they live in and their exchange of ideas. A programme of activities and events at the YMCA Swansea supported the exhibitions, including artist talks, workshops, guided tours and a volunteer programme. Alongside Owen, participating artists included Tim Davies, Paul Emmanuel, Yingmei Duan, Zeng Huanguang, Fern Thomas and Maleonn Ma. Venues across the city included Coastal Housing, Elysium Gallery, Mission Gallery, Ragged School, Swansea Market and Swansea YMCA, and the exhibition was supported by The Arts Council of Wales, British Council, Connections through Culture, British Council Wales, Confucius Institute, Swansea Metropolitan University and Wales Arts International.
